Reasonable?

We had a visit from a local electrician yesterday to give us a quote for installing a new socket in the kitchen where the new units will be. As far as I can understand they will take a new connection from the fuse box through the basement straight through the wall to the socket as it backs onto the stairs. I guess that means a socket, 10 metres of cable and amazingly 1 days work as an estimate.
Would anyone like to guess how much that is likely to cost?

4000Kr!!!!!!!!! (approx £380 or $800 US)

Time to read up on some wiring...

I agree - get reading! - not a days work - figure out how much load is on the existing kitchen sockets and consider adding a spur - I don't think the amount of power you will use will increase with the new kitchen.
You could install the socket and let the cable dangle in the basement until you figure out what to connect it to. Cable is not expensive.

If Denmark is subject to the same kind of building regs as UK, presumably some EU standard, you are only allowed to have this kind of work done by a qualified electrician. Our electrician fitted new lights, overloaded the system and blew the fuses.Still not sure what he is quaified in.ajen

The load will depend on what you intend to use said socket for, that will also determine the guage of cable required.
If it's the cooker I can understand the new feed otherwise no. Isn't there anything else you can get this electrician to do - these odd jobs will always be expensive they really need to be done in combination with other work to make it worth turning up.G

  7. The country is full of /&(#/Q$@£ and that is the end of it.
The loops in the house are not lights and sockets, but both together in zones. I think there are only 2. The existing sockets in the kitchen were put in for us as spurs on the cooker loop. I'll enquire but I am definately doing it myslef
