Fruit Review: The honey Pomelo

Firstly it is important to get an idea of the scale of this thing - it is the size of a football so there is a certain amount of comedy value that it would be foolish to overlook. To be honest, the only reason that I bought it was that it looked funny.
You have to cut through the peel with a knife and pull off the spongy pithy stuff to reveal the dry leathery outside of the flesh. Once you have gotten through all of that you really need to remove the flesh from the segments much as you would an grapefruit because the outside is totally inedible.
The you are there, ready for the first taste...
The score and this point is 6/10 for anticipation but suddenly with the first bite the score for satisfaction falls just as quickly as the score for anti-climax and disappointment rises.
The taste was barely there and basically a bit citrusy and it was dry.
Overall the score was 3/10 because it wasn't that sour, but a lot of hassle and rather expensive for something that would be beaten by an average orange.

  1. They make great salads with them in Thailand - dont think of it as an edible citrus fruit but a salad ingredient like lettuce.
Tear the segments apart so the juice sacks are separate - not difficult because it alreay rather dry, dress it with lime juice and oil and chilli and it is very good.

Good things generally come in small to medium parcels, I believe, where food is concerned.
